{Odd topic titles ftw.}
The path to Rustboro City was a long one, or so he had been told, and he had made sure to prepare for it properly while they were in Petalburg City.
That had included the usual stocking of berries, potions, and Poke Balls. All the essentials he needed to be set for whatever awaited them ahead.
And then they had left Petalburg City and headed north from there, John learning information on the Leader there as well. Eba had said she was a Rock type user. So Water or Fighting.
Nico knows Double Kick. Still, it might be better to use Break. We'll see once we get there.
He stopped at the entrance to a large stretch of woods, and glanced around to see a sign standing nearby. It read 'Petalburg Woods: Be careful of falling Wurmples!'
Petalburg Woods huh? Didn't sound too bad, and it seemed this was the only way north. He turned to glance over his shoulder only once, to make sure Eba was still coming, before stepping through the entrance of the woods into the dark forest. The shadows cast here from the trees above made it nearly impossible to see anything in the inky darkness, but John could feel the forest teeming with vibrant life.
A forest. It reminds me of Viridian Forest.
He stopped here now and waited for his new companion, taking the time to admire the scenery here and scan the thick undergrowth and trees above for any signs of new Pokemon that he had never seen before.
{Sorry for the awkwardness, it was kind of hard to start because Eba said 'follow me'. xD}

((Sorry. Transitions aren't my strong spot. Ps. You used 'xD' .)) ((I'm an idiot... I forgot grass beats rock as well XD)) "Sorry I was slow," Eba apologized, catching up to John. "I had to stock up on poke balls." Eba was hoping to catch a shroomish or seedot, whichever one he found first. I'm finally here... Eba thought. Rustboro was just a forest away. The first gym is close, and... Not again! Poochyena and his newly-caught Wingull were fighting between each other. The fighting had been going on periodically ever since Wingull was healed at the pokemon center. Breaking those two up was the real reason he was slow when getting to the woods. Eba glanced at Blaze, who nodded in comprehension. Blaze broke the fight up by merely glaring at the two pokemon. There was no doubt in Wingull and Poochyena's minds that Blaze was the 'captain' of the team. Since Blaze had beaten Poochyena, and Poochyena had beaten Wingull, both considered themselves lower in the team hierarchy, although which one was the lowest was frequently in debate between them. "So," Eba said, hoping John didn't notice the disfunctionality of his team, "do you want to train and catch pokemon here for a bit, or should we move on?"

A small little squabble had caught John's attention, but he pretended to ignore the fight between Eba's Pokemon in hopes that he wouldn't risk damaging the new Trainer's self confidence. If he wanted to become a good Trainer, he would need to keep that self confidence and grow it in the future. He only shrugged slightly at Eba's comment, and then glanced around, taking a few more steps forward. "Well if we're going to take on a Gym Leader, we've gotta get tougher somehow. So..." John glanced around, his eyes scanning the vibrant green bushes and taller trees for any signs of Pokemon. He could hear them rustling about but... he barely had enough time avoid the sudden spray of seeds that came flying toward him. Dodging out of the way, he glanced to where they had come from. There on the ground stood a small flower looking Pokemon with tiny green feet and spots that dotted its plant like body. A grim and angry expression was on its features. The Pokemon uttered another cry and backed up a bit, and John smiled to himself. It wanted a battle, huh? So be it. In truth, he was more pumped about the fight because he would get to show off in front of Eba for the first time. Who should I use? Nico is too strong for it, and Break would probably be a bad choice...Lava and Flicker are Fire types; this thing looks like a Grass type and used Bullet Seed...Grant won't obey me yet...I guess that leaves only one choice.Removing the Poke Ball that held his special Shiny Aron in it from his belt, John clicked the button in the middle and sent it flying toward the ground. "Blue, you're up, lets go!" Aron vs Shroomish

The Pokemon uttered another cry as John's Shiny Aron, nicknamed Blue, materialized in front of John. John smiled to himself and nodded, getting ready for a battle. Blue was tough, but he wasn't as strong as the other members of John's team. He would only need a few moves to get this Pokemon weak enough to be caught.
"Blue, lets get this going with a Mud Slap! But hold back on the power a bit!"
The Shiny Aron nodded and a grim expression spread across his face as his claws dug into the grass below, gathering mud around his claws. The opposing Pokemon waited eagerly, mesmerized by Blue.
The Aron let his gathered power go, not charging it to full, and sent a spray of mud flinging toward the opposing Pokemon. The flower Pokemon was shocked, but easily dodged the spray of mud flying toward it by leaping into the air. John barely had enough time to tell Blue to react to the Pokemon's next move. The flower Pokemon emitted a spray of glittering green dust from its body, dancing to spread the powder and fling it toward Blue while it skirted over the Mud Slap.
"Blue, watch out for that Sleep Powder! Charge under it and hit that Pokemon with a Metal Claw!"
The Aron nodded again, and charged forward, moving surprisingly fast for his body being so small. The Pokemon had just descended entirely from its little dance in the air in enough time to see the Aron it had thought asleep now rushing toward it with a mad look in its red eyes. The Pokemon yielded a small scream before Blue's powerful Metal Claw dug into its soft flesh, and sent it sailing back against the tree.
For a moment or two, the Pokemon did not get back up, but when John was ready to call Blue back and capture the Pokemon, it stood up suddenly and with an even angrier expression on its face sent a Bullet Seed sailing straight for John's Aron. He knew Blue couldn't dodge it, so he only smiled to himself as he called his next order to his Pokemon.
"Blue, Iron Defense, lets go!"
The Aron nodded once more as his body began to glow with a metallic sheen. The Bullet Seed collided with Blue moments later, and although he suffered some damage from the attack, the Iron Defense had helped to greatly reduce the amount of damage he would have suffered had he not used Iron Defense.
John was not going to let this battle end in a loss; to have it end that way would be shameful in front of his new companion. Both Pokemon were hurt, albeit Blue less so than the opposing Pokemon. Which John realized he still had no idea what this Pokemon's name was.
"Ok Blue, lets finish this up with a Headbutt, shall we?"
The Aron grinned slightly to himself, realizing how easy this would be since the opposition was still staring gaped mouth at the Aron who had so easily deflected its powerful Bullet Seed. A claw raked the ground once, twice, and on the third time Blue charged forward. What he had not expected was for the other Pokemon to do the exact same thing, although less as courageously as Blue was. The Pokemon had seemed to decide to charge forward not out of its actual own thoughts but because that seemed like the only likely option.
A Tackle against a Headbutt huh? Lets see how this goes...
Moments later, the pair collided, and for a moment a cloud of kicked up dust and dirt surrounded the collision, but John already knew who would come out of that cloud standing.
His thoughts were confirmed when the cloud dissipated to reveal a proud Aron standing victoriously over the now collapsed and severely weakened opposing Pokemon.
John smiled to himself, cheering for his Aron and then returned Blue to his Poke Ball. He then removed an empty Poke Ball from his belt and threw it at the injured Pokemon. It collided with the Pokemon moments later and John already knew he had this capture in the bag.
Once...twice...come on...come on...
There was a soft 'click', and then the ball stopped rolling. He had done it. He had captured another Pokemon.
"Alright! I got one!" he said to himself, picking up the Poke Ball from his belt. He hadn't even gotten a chance to hold it for long before it materialized into white dust in his hands, and for the moment he panicked, but then he remembered he was already carrying six Pokemon. His new partner had been sent to the PC storage system.
Now, he turned to face Eba and placed one hand on his hip casually and grinned wildly.
"That is how you do this thing."

"A shroomish! Wow, that's amaz-uh, I mean, I can do that too!" Eba exclaimed, trying to not show his awe at John's skill. He looked around for any pokemon he could find. "Poochyena, do you know the smell of a... Uh... Seedot?" he asked. Poochyena nodded, and started sniffing around. Wingull got jealous, but a glance from Blaze kept her in line.
((Kept this short because based on your shout I assume you want to be able to respond to Eba's comment on the shroomish.))

John chuckled slightly to himself at the Trainer's suddenly subdued awe and shock. It only served to bolster his already enormous ego.
With a casual and dismissive hand gesture, John smiled slightly, a hint of devious gleam slipping into his ocean blue eyes.
"Lets see you do it too then, shall we?" he challenged, waiting for the Trainer's response. His Poochyena would find the Seedot before long, and then John would see firsthand how Eba battled as a Trainer.

Almost immediately after John commented, Poochyena found a trail. It lead Eba a few yards into a thick patch of trees, but not so far that if Eba turned around, he could still see where he was standing when John had fought the shroomish. Seedots relied on disguise to avoid trainers and predators, but that meant that tracking by means other than sight, such as by Poochyena's smell, would find them with ease. Blaze is super-effective, so I don't think that I should use him for a capture, and Wingull is weak against it, so that's also a bad idea. Looks like you'll get to fight again, Poochyena, Eba thought, but then realized that Wingull would feel depressed if it did not help catch a pokemon, and so would remain low on the hierarchy the pokemon had established among themselves. "Poochyena, let Wingull handle this," he said. Poochyena grunted, but didn't disobey Eba. Wingull vs Seedot

"Wingull, let's start this off with supersonic!" Eba commanded. Wingull obeyed, and screeched loudly, sending a supersonic wave straight for the seedot. It took the attack full-force, and became confused. Luckily for it, it managed to use bide. Eba thought about what bide did. He ordered Wingull to give the water gun attack at full-force, and then pulled out his PokéNav and looked up the move while Wingull attacked. The move 'Bide' makes the user incredibly vulnerable to attacks, but will allow the user to deal back double the damage that is done to it during the duration of this move. |
Uh-oh he thought. "No, Wingull, stop!" he shouted, but it was too late. The seedot attacked Wingull, knocking Wingull to the ground. Wingull managed to fly again, but was visibly hurt. "Wingull, water gun now, before it uses bide again!" Wingull used water gun, and the seedot staggered backwards. Despite its grass-type, it was almost half the level of Wingull, so Wingull's moves did a lot of damage. It tried to use harden, but was so confused it tripped on a rock and fell flat on its face. Eba saw his chance, and threw a pokeball at it. The pokeball shook once, twice, and... Eba closed his eyes, hoping it would be caught. After a few seconds, he opened them again, and the seedot was caught! "I did it!... Uh, I mean, that was easy!"

John nodded his approval at the young Trainer, grinning wildly as he gave the kid a thumbs up.
"Alright, nice catch! And you and Wingull have some battling experience together!"
He was still grinning when he noticed the shady figure lurking in the trees ahead. It was far too dark to see anything more than a few feet ahead of himself, but John thought it looked like a human.
And moments after he saw the shadowy figure, it was gone, and he blinked, rubbing his eyes to make sure he had not imagined it. He only shrugged and turned back to Eba.
"Lets do some more training before we head onto Rustboro. I have a feeling we'll need it."
But his thoughts were more concerned with the figure he had seen. If he had seen one.
It could mean trouble. I should stick close to Eba...we'll need to keep close if it's trouble. Strength in numbers.

"Alright," Eba said. He used a potion on Wingull and Seedot, and came up with an idea. He looked at Wingull and Poochyena and ginned. "This will be the first team placement tournament, guys!" he said. He then sketched out his idea in the sand. First battle will be Wingull vs Torchic, and second battle will be Seedot vs Poochyena. The winners and loosers will then fight eachother for their numbers in the hierarchy! We'll do this every day during training!" His thinking behind this was that it would inspire his pokemon to move up the rankings, and so they would train harder.
((Gtg for 20 minutes, will be back after that))

Team placement battle huh? This will be fun to watch. But I also need to do some training of my own.
John watched with amusement as Eba sketched out his idea in the sand for his Pokemon to see. They seemed genuinely excited about it, and it would help to settle their disputes. A good plan, seeing as how his team had been squabbling about it recently. John nodded his approval and smiled slightly.
"An apt idea. It'll help your partners bond with each other too. You have talent." he found himself praising the young Trainer for his already blooming qualities and aspects as a future Trainer, and John couldn't help but blush. This kid was anything less than normal.
But he didn't need to see Eba mediating his team's disputes over their hierarchy to know that. He had known it from the first moment they had met.
Why don't you strengthen Break a bit? You'll use your new Shroomish as your lead Pokemon for Roxanne's battle, but you'll have Break on backup.
It was a good idea, actually. His new Shroomish was a Grass type-it could easily handle whatever first few Pokemon Roxanne chose to use against him, and he would strengthen his bond with his new partner through that battle. and then if he needed to he could use Break as a last resort. The Machoke would have no issue sweeping a team of Rock Pokemon.
Removing the two Poke Balls from his belt, John sent out his Nidorino and his Machoke. The Pokemon materialized before him instantly and John nodded to them, and then moved out of the way, gesturing toward Eba's own gathering of Pokemon. They watched eagerly, seeing new possible friends.
"Break, Nico, watch Eba's Pokemon battle. I want you two to face off against each other after they're done; it'll help get you two ready for future battles."
He lowered his voice considerably now and leaned in next to his Pokemon. "I also want you to keep an eye on the surroundings. I thought I saw someone suspicious in the trees. You guys will be our lookouts while we all battle, ok?"
The Machoke-Break-gave a quick and curt nod to his Trainer, and the loyal Nidorino Nico's ears perked slightly at the mention of someone suspicious. Trouble. He would make sure that no trouble came to this happy little gathering. Nico and Break shared a quick glance, and that was all they needed. They knew that facing off against each other would be a tough match, but it would help to strengthen the bond between the two. As the first two original partners that John had received, they were his strongest duo.
The trio watched Eba's Pokemon eagerly, each of them keeping a discreet eye on the surrounding area for any sign of the shadowy figure John had seen earlier.

While Wingull and Blaze were battling, Poochyena and Seedot were also giving it all they had. Poochyena had opened with a howl in response to Seedot's bide, thus eliminating the threat of receiving double damage. To counter Poochyena's howl, Seedot then used harden, evening out her opponent's attack boost with a defensive raise. Poochyena tackled Seedot, who used bide afterwards. Poochyena then used howl again. Eba frowned, as he could see there was no way Seedot could win. Every time Seedot would use bide, Poochyena would use howl, thus renering bide useless. However, that was the only offensive move Seedot knew. Poochyena suddenly stopped attacking, and walked up to Seedot. Poochyena then tackled a bush, as if he were trying to teach Seedot how to use tackle. At this point, Eba intervened. "Poochyena is the victor," he said, "and thus I appoint him as your mentor, Seedot."
((And thus the team relations start to show their form. Blaze is the calm, calculating leader of the pack, while Poochyena considers himself second-in-command. Poochyena has a rivalry with Wingull, which is amplified by the fact that Seedot, who is Poochyena's 'apprentice,' will be picked on by Wingull because she was Wingull's first victory.))

John found himself grinning at the battles that unfolded before his eyes, and watching carefully how Eba spectated and stepped in on the match between his Poochyena and Seedot before Seedot would have to suffer through much more pain of seeing the same old same old routine of attacks.
Potential indeed.
With the matches finished, John turned to his own two Pokemon and nodded to them.
"Well then, you two, lets get to it."
The Machoke and Nidorino shared a quick glance at each other before Nico charged straight into Break, Tackling him to the ground. John cheered for Nico leading off with such an offensive start, but he soon realized Nico had not meant to attack Break. He had Tackled Break to avoid the dark colored sphere that was thrown at the spot where Break had been less than a fraction of a second ago.
Trouble. Damn.
A voice cursed slightly under its breath, and then a figure detached itself from the bushes. It was a large and bulky male, still shrouded in mostly shadow, but John thought he could pick out scraps of blue colored clothing.
"Well then, so much for that little plan. Guess we'll have to beat it out of you then."
John spared a quick glance around before responding to the strange man.
"'We'? But you're all alone."
The man laughed slightly and then a woman appeared by his side less than a moment later, clad in virtually the same outfit that the man was. they looked menacing.
John spared a quick glance over his shoulder at Eba, who was probably still unaware of the fact that this duo had suddenly appeared. A grim frown spread across his face, and he felt something cold brush slightly against his leg. Glancing down, he met the eyes of his loyal Nidorino, and they both nodded simultaneously.
Nico leapt forward, directly in front of John, and took up a battle stance, readying himself for a fight. Meanwhile, John returned his Machoke, who was still looking on with some interest, hoping for part of the spoils, and turned to glance back at Eba.
"Hope your team is ready for a real fight, Eba. We've got trouble."
The man and woman laughed together, and removed two Poke Balls from their belt. They sent the Pokemon inside them out at the same time. A Volbeat and Illimuse. A deadly duo.
The frown on John's face grew larger as he waited for Eba to become aware of the situation they had stepped into.
Nico will assist with Helping Hand. If Eba really needs help, I'll mop them with his physical attacks, but I want him to get most of the experience from this fight.

"Stop fighting," he told Blaze and Wingull. "We'll carry this on later. Right now, there's two bug pokemon, and the three types shared between you two; Fire, Water, and Flying, are all super-effective. This will be your first true trainer battle, so let's do this right." Eba had suddenly gotten more serious in attitude. This was not because of the suspiciousness of the newcomers; he figured that they were just trainers looking for a match. This increase of seriousness was because this would be the first actual trainer vs trainer battle he's ever had, and maybe will ever have until the battle against Roxanne. "Double-team the illumise," Eba said, coughing loudly as he did so. Wingull didn't understand what Eba had meant until Blaze leapt for the volbeat, preparing to use scratch. The realization that the cough was an indicator of a trick came only a split second later, fast enough to deliver a powerful two-pokemon coordinated attack, but slow enough that the volbeat might be able to dodge.

{{Since you're taking on the Volbeat, you can control it. I'll take the other one.}}
So he's taking the Volbeat huh? Nico can take a hit...
"Alright Nico, lets lead off strong! Get a Horn Attack on that Illimuse!"
The Nidorino nodded, and the battle had officially begun now.
He charged forward with practiced ease, slamming directly into the Illimuse, but the woman was also expecting this.
"Illimuse, Attract that Nidorino!"
Attract??? No! Damn!
Nico had no chance, having closed in for the easy kill. The stream of infatuating hearts sprayed toward him, and he couldn't dodge. Moments later, the Illimuse he had been wanting to fight now became the sole love of his life, and he found he could no longer hurt her. She seemed so..fragile.
The woman chuckled to herself, and then commanded her Illimuse to attack almost instantly. John would have complained that this was against the League rules, but he didn't think rules mattered much at this point.
"Illimuse, smack that lover boy Nidorino with a Signal Beam!"
The dazzling Bug Pokemon reacted to its Trainer's command with grace and beauty, and the confounded and love lost Nico took the full force of the attack from the Signal Beam. John could see it was hopeless unless somehow Nico managed to break through. Nico was his strongest; John knew he could survive longer than the rest of his team, but just how long could Eba survive in this battle without a proper assist?
He's a great Trainer. He'll be ok while Nico finds his way back to reality.
Or so he hoped.

((I'm an idiot, once again. I sent out two pokemon against one... I should really stop being so absentminded.... XD (yes, I did XD. I thought this sentence would be too serious without it XD (ditto XD (ditto XD (ditto XD (you get the point XD (...)))))))) ((I'm using the theoretical lv 25 moveset for volbeat, just for convenience))
Eba called back Wingull, realizing he had sent out two pokemon when, clearly, he would be fighting alongside John. While Blaze didn't have any super-effective moves against the volbeat yet, he and Blaze could understand what the other meant a lot better than Wingull could, as demonstrated by the cough trick he and Blaze often did in mock battles against stuffed animal mareep.
First, analyze the moveset, Eba thought, thinking about the battling technique his father had taught him. The volbeat used Moonlight, recovering a small portion of its health despite the fact that the moon was not yet visible. It then followed up with signal beam, which he told Blaze to counter it by leaping into it, taking some of the damage. Since signal beam was a 'special-type' move, it was non-concrete, allowing Blaze to go through it, scratching the volbeat on the other side.
"Volbeat, quick-attack!" the opposing trainer said. Before Blaze could react, he was knocked backwards by the volbeat, and was tipped off-balance, falling down. The other trainer took advantage of this, commanding "now, confuse ray! Don't give it a chance to get back up!"
That's four moves! Now I have a general idea of how this pokemon attacks... Eba thought. Second, determine the style... Argh, I don't know enough yet to determine fighting styles! The confuse ray hit Blaze, making Blaze stumble around. The average confusion lasts 2-4 turns... Eba decided to not give Blaze a command, letting the confuse ray wear off without Blaze accidentally scratching himself. However, Blaze had other plans. It blew an ember at the volbeat, making Eba stagger back in surprise. Since when had Blaze known ember? ...The intra-team tournament! He learned it after fighting with Wingull! The ember hit the volbeat, and it staggered back in pain. "Good, Blaze! Now, do it again!" The volbeat used double-team, and the ember Blaze unleashed again hit one of the illusions volbeat had created.
"Volbeat, use flash!" the adversary said.
"Blaze, cover your eyes... *cough*!" Eba shouted. Blaze understood, and leapt into the move like it had with the signal beam. In the air Blaze morphed, just as the flash hit. Eba was temporarily blinded by the light, but when he regained his sight he saw Blaze's foot smash into the volbeat, knocking it down and fainting it. Blaze then landed with finesse, and looked at Eba. Blaze was no longer a torchic. He had evolved. Eba now had a combusken.
((Edit: Just in case you don't understand, double kick is a move torchic learns when it evolves, which is what Blaze used on the volbeat))

(Oh come on, you act like I don't choose Torchic as my Starter every single time for Hoenn... ) Nico was stumbling through an idle fantasy with his newfound love when a sudden barking voice dragged him from his love lost world. The Illimuse was no longer someone to love, but someone to fight again. "Nico, use Helping Hand to give Blaze an assist! Then get a Poison Sting ready!" The Nidorino was back in the fight now; someone, he had broken free of the infatuation from that Illimuse, and the Trainer was shocked. A grim frown spread across her face as she commanded her Illimuse to attack. "Illimuse, use Moonlight!" Damn. It's going to restore all the damage Horn Attack did...
John's Nidorino completed Helping Hand, and then turned back to face the Illimuse, who had just finished using Moonlight. Even strength for now. Minus the Signal Beam, which shouldn't have hurt him much. Come on, Nico. We can do this.
The Nidorino's body began to glow with a luminous purple sheen, and suddenly a large stinger shot from his body toward the Illimuse. But the Trainer had been expecting this move as well. "Illimuse, dodge it with Double Team!" The dazzling Bug Pokemon split into many doubles, and suddenly the Poison Sting was rendered useless as it collided with one of the illusionary doubles. "Nico, focus! Only one of them is real!" To say the Nidorino was confused was an understatement. More like dumbfounded. But he tried to concentrate, singling out each of them in turn, trying to find the real one. A sudden thought occurred to him. There, the one in the middle, yes, that was her. "Nico, use Take Down once you've found her! All out on this one!" The Nidorino gave a curt nod, and charged forward, leaping into the air to provide extra momentum when he fell to the Take Down. It would inflict massive damage on the Illimuse, but he would also hurt himself in the process. He collided with the Illimuse, proud to see he had picked the right one, and the adversary let out a shrill cry of fear. Nico had descended full force with the Take Down onto her Illimuse, and the Bug Pokemon let out a shrill cry of pain. Nico charged forward yet, ignoring the reckless damage he was causing to himself, until the pair was skidding backwards and collided with a tree. Clouds of dust were kicked up, and for the moment neither Trainer could spot their Pokemon. But then a shape was visible among the cloud, and below it a smaller shape, the shape of a Bug Pokemon. Nico emerged from the dust cloud, and John cheered, but Nico walked with little energy. Not enough to realize that his opponent still had some fighting energy left. The other Trainer was too quick for John to react. "Illimuse, use Moonlight to get back up on your feet! Then get this Nidorino under control with Attract!" What??? No, not again!
The Illimuse stood slowly, and began to restore itself with Moonlight. A grim frown spread across John's face now. And all he needed to share was one glance with his loyal Nidorino, a curt nod from both of them, and Nico was back at his side, ready to finish this once and for all. "Nico, use Take Down one more time, full force! Interrupt that Illimuse before it restores itself to full!" The Pokemon leapt into the air, using the same tactic as before, and came crashing down with full force on the completely unsuspecting Illimuse. There was a shrill shriek of utter pain, and then silence for the moment. The battle was not over. The clouds dissipated to reveal a collapsed Nidorino, and John cried out for Nico, but he found that the Illimuse was also not moving. A double KO. Nico had taken down the Illimuse, but he had also taken down himself. "Nico, you did great! Come back." John returned his Nidorino as the other Trainer did the same to her Illimuse, but she laughed to herself. "Foolish boy. This isn't over yet. Plusle, lets go!" She removed a Poke Ball from her belt and sent out the Pokemon inside. Plusle? I've never fought one of these before...it looks like an Electric type though.
"Alright then, Blue, you're up! Lets go!" Once more, John's Shiny Aron materialized before him, and began a hard stare down with the opponents Plusle. And so the second stage of the match had begun. ((Just so you're aware, each of them has the opposite. So the first round was Volbeat and Illimuse, the second is Plusle and Minun. Your opponent would have a Minun then too, once Volbeat is down.))

"Blaze, use double-kick again!" Eba shouted in response to the summoning of the minun. Blaze did so, knocking the minun back with the sheer power of his kicks.
"Minun, electro ball!" the opposing trainer said. Blaze took the attack head-on, and then leapt at the minun, intending to use peck. Peck wasn't super-effective against electric types, but the opposite. It was weak to electricity. Why had Blaze decided to use that? He's still confused from confuse ray! Eba realized. The attack hit the minun, barely doing any damage. And then something happened that changed the course of the battle. "Minun," the trainer said, "use copycat!" The minun used copycat, allowing it to use the move peck. It hit Blaze, and was super effective. Unable to withstand the attack, Blaze fell down and fainted. Eba gulped. The star of his team had just gone down, and Wingull was doubly weak to minun, leaving him with Seedot, who did could not win a battle with her current moveset, and Poochyena.
"Poochyena, you're up!" Eba said. "Use tackle!" Poochyena obeyed, tackling the minun. Just as Poochyena executed the attack, the minun used electro ball again, pushing Poochyena off of it and into the tree. Electricity surged through Poochyena's body, and it stopped moving. It had been paralyzed.
The opposing trainer laughed. "The combusken was a formidable foe, but all of the rest of your pokemon are third-rate. Victory goes to me."
Eba was about to send out Wingull, who was his last hope, when Poochyena howled and got up on its feet. How..? Eba thought. After a blow like that, Poochyena shouldn't have been able to move. Poochyena leapt for the minun again, tackling it again and again, going so fast that the minun couldn't keep up. Quick Feet! Eba realized. It was an ability poochyena could have that allowed them to ignore the effects of paralysis and attack with greater speed then before. The minun didn't land a single attack after the electro ball, unable to hit a target moving at such fast speeds. Before long, the minun fainted.
((Fun fact: Coincidentally, most of my pokemon have speed-effecting abilities. Blaze has Speed Boost, Poochyena has Quick Feet, the ninjask I want in the future will also have Speed Boost, and Seedot has Chlorophyll, which also boosts speed...))

This was an easy cinch of a battle.
"Blue, lead off strong with Mud Slap!"
"Plusle, use Electro Ball!"
And so they traded back and forth. The battle raged onward, until eventually it came down to one final move.
"Alright Blue, she's weak now! Finish her off with one more Mud Slap!"
The Shiny Aron nodded once more, and released another Mud Slap, fainting the Plusle.
The battle was over, and both shady characters fled almost immediately. John returned his Aron and then turned to face Eba.
"Great skills, huh?"
{{Sorry for the short post, I just needed to wrap up that battle really quickly. So we can move onward.))

"Wow, that was awesome!" Eba exclaimed. "It's too bad they ran away, I wanted to thank them for the battle. My pokemon are hurt, though. I assume you've wrapped everything up, so let's go to Rustboro! Woohoo! First gym battle is almost here!"
((Creating the Rustboro topic now.))
