'Aidan! No! Get back here!' The pubescent girl ran after her Growlithe, the little puppy barking happily as it rushed ahead into the forest. Her arms were full with an infant Eevee and her old pet Vulpix, the latter who would also be running --in a different direction-- if she wasn't holding her. 'Aidan! Get over here! Listen to me for once!'
Alexandria gave a huffing sigh, giving up on chasing her most mischievous pokemon. Both of her Fire-types were of the trickier natures: Aidan the Growlithe was naughty and Enya the Vulpix was sassy. Neither of them liked to listen, never had. If anything, that was the reason her family had so gladly given them to her when she left on her journey.
With a lopsided puppy dog grin, Aidan came trotting back to his trainer's side, rearing up on his hind to legs and putting his front paws on her shins. Alexa smiled down at the pup, knowing he was going to come back just after she gave up. 'Aidan, you need to learn to listen. You'll get stolen or lost one day, you know.'
The Growlithe gave a laughing bark, his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth, and Lexa stooped down, putting Enya down to pat his head. 'Just... be good, both of you. We've got a long journey ahead of us, you know. So we've all got to try hard and be the best we can be, alright?'
Enya and Aidan exchanged glances with each other, and for a moment Alexa's heart dropped; the two were bad by themselves, but when they teamed up to be naughty together, they were a horrid. But both Pokemon looked back at her and nodded their heads, giving happy cries which were echoed by the tiny eevee.

Petalburg Woods, the infamous house of many types of Bug and Grass Pokemon. Trainers aiming to take on the Rustboro Gym Leader Roxanne are strongly encouraged often to stop here in these woods to catch themselves a proper Type Pokemon for facing the Gym Leader if they do not already have one on their teams.
The long and winding paths that stretch through the woods are confusing and distracting, and some may even lead to a dead end. Finding the right path through the Woods is a matter of luck. Or using the natural rustle and bustle of Pokemon in the leaves above and undergrowth nearby to keep you on your way. Legend says that if you follow the trail of Wurmple silk, you'll find the exit to the Woods eventually.
Or maybe just end up in one of their nests.
The appearances of Fire types within the Woods was causing quite a disturbance already. Bushes rustled, and the leaves above teemed with a sudden fleeing mass of Wurmples, Cascoons, Silcoons, and even in some rare cases a Shroomish or two.
Meanwhile, on the ground below, Seedots, posing as acorns for unsuspecting travelers, fled in terror at the sight of the Growlithe and Vulpix.
And soon, the entire forest is dead silent once more, leaving a wide berth where there used to be life from the two mischievous Fire type Pokemon with the young girl.
The path that leads into the forest stretches onward forward, in a straight line, and diverts to the right about ten feet in. It's impossible to tell where it leads any further past that point; the thick canopy of interlocking leaves from the trees above block out almost all of the sunlight.

'Well, come on then, both of you,' Alexa said after a moment with her Fire types. She gave them both a pat on the head before standing up, still holding Lily to her chest. 'Stay close so we don't lose each other, got it? Aidan, you lead the way with that nose of yours. You know what a city smells like, I doubt Rustboro smell much different than any other.'
The Growlithe gave a bark, sniffing at the air heavily. He could smell so many different things in this forest, so many different Pokemon. But no city. The scent of trees and woods and bugs was too strong. But rather than let Lexa know and let down his trainer, the fire pup gave another yip and trotted down the path, leading his team the way he hoped would take them to where his Alexa wanted to go.

Trainers are always warned to watch for the smells to avoid the hives of Bug Pokemon.
The overwhelming stench of thick pheromones that coats some of the paths signals areas where Bug Pokemon are most frequently inhabited. However, with the appearance of Fire type Pokemon in the forest, the docile and shy Bug and Grass types have completely deserted their homes, leaving an empty expanse of forest to explore, ans possibly leaving some of the hives deserted. A more reckless Trainer might go scrounging for items that the Bug Pokemon might have picked up in their foraging, but that could also mean walking into a serious sticky situation. Literally.
The path stretches farther into the forest, leading off to the right. On closer inspection, there seems to be a glistening substance in the trees above this diverging path. Dew? Or perhaps silk from Bug Pokemon? Maybe a signal for a hive?
Suddenly, a shrill cry rings out, piercing the deadening silence and startling the hiding Pokemon above in the trees, scurrying deeper into the forest.
A wild shriek rings out in the air again, and this time the beating of wings follows. A shadow forms on the ground, signaling something in the air above. Glancing upward, a menacing green looking Bug Pokemon is descending from the sky, with two long and curved scythes for arms.
A Sycther! Here in Petalburg Woods?
But this Sycther seems...agitated. At what?
Following the gaze of this fear some Bug and Flying type Pokemon, you can see that it is glaring at the Fire types. It seems threatened, and naturally, being very territorial by nature, wants to be rid of them.
The Bug Pokemon lands with a light halt, raising its arms backwards, and flinging them forward toward the Fire types. Another shrill scream follows this move, and the Scyther assumes a battle stance.
VS: Scyther Lv. 4

[[gal, have i ever mentioned how much i love you XD]]
As the Sycther's first cry, Lexa's eyes grew wide with fright. Though she'd journeyed in the wilds before, she'd almost always been with a group, or riding in a truck's bed. She'd never had to face one a real wild, untamed pokemon before. The tiny Eevee in her arms quivered with fear, it's low level and timid nature instinctively making it want to run away. But the red haired girl held tight to her infant shiny, took a deep breath, and continued on, following her fire puppy's lead.
But both fire Pokemon had stopped in their tracks. Enya didn't know what to make of the sound, though she knew a battle was coming. Unsure of herself and what her trainer wanted, the russet fox rushed back to Alexa's side, standing in a defensive stance, though hiding slightly behind the young girl.
Aidan, on the other hand, already had his face grimaced in a growl, eyes narrowed and stubby legs apart. He didn't know what had made the cry, but he was ready for it. Or so he thought.
When the humanoid bug landed only feet away from the Growlithe, his eyes snapped wide open as he scuttled back a few steps. How could anything be this much bigger than he was? He wanted to run for the shortest moment, retreat back to Alexandria like Enya had, but he knew he had to stay and fight, protect his team.
Lexa smiled at her little pup's bravery, knowing that he must be just as scared and nervous as she was. A Scyther! How could she be so lucky! But she was at a great disadvantage. Bug types were easily defeated by fire types, and she couldn't just throw little Lily into her first battle with such a beast! And besides, Aidan was already eager to fight.
With another deep breath, Alexa began her first ever battle, giving the first command. 'Alright, Aidan, you've got this! But be careful --I want this one to join us, got it?' The pup gave a nod, not breaking eye contact with the bug. 'Good. Now, use bite!'
The Growlithe stared for a moment, as if he had to process the command. But in reality, he was wondering just how he could bite something like that, covered in hard armor. His pause only took a few heartbeats, though, and soon he charged at the Sycther, jaws wide open and ready to clamp down on whatever they first came into contact with.

[Everything has a purpose xD]
It would take a massively speedy Pokemon to be able to strike a Scyther, especially so head on and suddenly. Naturally, Scyther itself is fast and light footed, making it an agile fighter, with a powerful punch. Or, more accurately, slice.
As the stubby little puppy charged for it, the Bug Pokemon made no attempt to dodge the Bite attack sailing toward it. However, at the last possible second, the Scyther launched itself into the air, using its powerful leg muscles to send it high into the sky, nearly above the tips of the trees. With the attack from the Growlithe dodged, the Bug Pokemon could easily advance downward on the tiny puppy and deliver a fatal blow.
But the Scyther makes no move to attack, at least not the Growlithe. Instead, the Scyther descends at a quickened pace, aiming directly for the Trainer girl--on closer inspection, the tiny little Eevee in her arms.
But why aim for the Eevee, which wouldn't give a good fight at all, when the Growlithe would provide a somewhat decent fight?
This was to be answered the moment the humanoid Bug landed on the ground, facing the Trainer. A glint in the Bug Pokemon's eyes left a kind of impression of fear on whoever managed to catch them. The Pokemon scanned over the tiny shiny runt in the Trainer's arms, and then turned, spinning wildly on its feet as it met the path of the Growlithe once more.
With another shrill cry, the Scyther leaps into the air, slashing its scythes wildly, descending at an insane rate on the small puppy Pokemon. A vicious Slash attack--one of the moves Scyther is known for, and a move that strikes rapidly and viciously at vital points in quick succession. In all aspects, a move that could easily knock a less trained Pokemon out of a fight in one hit.
