((Continuing the weird topic title XD))
By the time Eba got to Rustboro city, he was getting tired. He had had a full day of excitement, catching new pokemon and having his first trainer battle. His first stop was the pokemon center, where he rested his team of four, then he turned to John and asked "Do you want to fight the gym leader now, or wait until tomorrow?"
((I posted with the assumption John went with Eba. You're right, it's very hard to create a topic when you're with another rper... I can change this if you want, just ask. But I honestly didn't know what to put in this post XD))

((Transitions are really hard. Lets just go ahead and assume every time we transition now the other is just following. As safe ground rules, so things become less awkward in the future.))
Rustboro City was a lot larger than john had imagined it to be. Stopping at the Pokemon Center with Eba, he took the time to heal his team and deposit one of his Pokemon-his Larvitar Grant-in the PC to make room for his Shroomish.
I'll have to come up with a name for him...her. Right, I forgot about that.
He had looked like an idiot asking the nurse at the counter of the Center what Gender his Shroomish was. He had walked out feeling red faced and idiotic, but his new Shroomish partner had danced around his feet happily and leaped onto his shoulder instead of returning to her Poke Ball.
And so he left the Center with his new Shroomish perched on his shoulder, and stopped to consider Eba's comment. Their teams had fought well for today, and they needed more than just healing.
"Lets rest for tonight. We can fight the Gym Leader tomorrow first thing in the morning, but lets not push our teams too far. They'll need the rest if they're going to grow stronger in the future."
And so John's Shroomish danced with joy on his shoulder, leaping down to the ground and spraying small spores around as she danced joyfully.
At least someone's excited about being around me.

((Okay, I'll remember that))
Eba nodded, and immediately looked for a hotel he could stay at. On his way to find one, he saw the Devon Corporation's building, and he felt nostalgic over his home in Littleroot, remembering how happy he was when he got his first PokeNav. Then he remembered something he had read in Devon Weekly, that the Devon Maps app was about to be launched. The article must be a few weeks old by now, so maybe... Eba opened his PokeNav and downloaded the app. When he opened it, it said 'to unlock the map the Hoenn region, please pay $2.99.'
"Ripoff..." he muttered, but payed for it nonetheless. Now he had access to a map of Hoenn, which he could use to plan his journey with. He selected Rustboro City on the map, and the map zoomed in to be a map of just the city. "Wow... Not a ripoff," he said. He scrolled around the map until he found a hotel. He rented a room, and fell asleep immediately.
((Had muse at the beginning of this post, but lost it in the middle, which is why this post may seem a little weird))

John smiled to himself, watching Eba select a hotel for them to say at that night, and once it was selected, they rested for the night.
((Time skipping to morning for roleplay purposes.))
John woke with a start. As he always did. But adrenaline immediately flooded over him as he realized today would be his first ever Gym Battle. And his first ever badge if he played it out carefully enough.
But first, there was one small matter that he had to deal with.
Rising from his bed, he left his room and went next door to where Eba had selected his room to be, and knocked slightly on his door.
"Yo, big day today! No time to sleep in!"
And then afterwards, he added, "I've got something I want to show you. Come meet me outside!"
And then he left the hotel abruptly. He wondered if the Trainer suspected what John was going to ask, not show him, but he decided to wait it out. Two Poke balls waited at his belt. One contained his Shroomish, and the other his Aron.
If they were going to take on the Gym Challenge, they would need more practice first to make sure they were absolutely ready. And so an idea had formed in John's mind last night; he would challenge Eba to a battle to ready his team for the fight against the Gym Leader Roxanne, who John had also studied up on last night. She was a supposed master of the Rock type, able to control them and command them with ease. An easy match if he ever hear of one; he had plenty of Pokemon that could easily wipe Rock type Pokemon off the map.
Instead, John waited-rather impatiently-for his companion outside their hotel.

Eba groggily sat up, wiping his eyes. He woke up to see Poochyena and Seedot outside their pokeballs, looking exhausted. Eba quickly sprayed them with potions, and then thought did they train together when I was asleep? Wait, why am I awake?... Oh, yeah, he knocked on my door, and... Oh! I've got to get up, he's probably waiting for me!. Eba got dressed into his trainer clothes -aka the ones he cared about the least and so he was okay if they got dirty from battles- and rushed outside, taking his pokemon with him. "Sorry if I made you wait," he said to John. "I'm slow to wake up."

John laughed lightly at Eba's comment about waking up late, and then removed a Poke Ball form his belt, clicking the button in the middle to expand it to full size.
"Well then, let me show you what I wanted to show you."
He pressed the button in the middle one more time, and his Shroomish materialized in front of him.
"A battle! To get us ready for our Gym fight! Come on, I'll take you on!"
((The short posts will become longer during our battle, I'm sure. I'll only have John use two of his Pokemon; Eba can use as many as you want him too. But I thought this would be the ideal time to place this little battle.))

((You're right. I'll keep Eba to two as well. This will be good char development for Eba, facing someone who's had years more experience then he has))
Shroomish, so, um, Blaze, because of super effectiveness, wait, no, status effects could easily take him out, so, Poochyena! Eba thought, his mind a blur because of the sudden challenge. "Poochyena, you've got this!" he said, sending Poochyena out.
((Sorry for the short post. Its your challenge, your opening move))

Alright! Poochyena, huh? Shroomish has got this one in the bag.
"Shroomish, lets get things going with a good Sleep Powder!" John commanded his new partner, and she sprung to life immediatelly, reacting easily to the commands of her new Trainer. As when John had first captured her, she sprung gracefully into the air, spraying the fine glittering dust from her body and twirling lightly and beautifully to spread and spray the powder towards Eba's Poochyena.
A smile spread across John's face, and his heart began to race as he watched the scene unfold before him. Eba was a good Trainer; John would see first hand for himself just how good Eba was. Not only that, his Shroomish would become accustomed to John's fighting style and commands and grow in strength and bonds with her new Trainer before the Gym fight. Of course, so would Eba.
And so the Sleep Powder was released, sent aiming straight for Eba's Poochyena, and the battle was officially under way.
((Battles between two human players will consist of saying 'aimed to' and such, much like on wca. No powerplaying or always dodging...you know how to roleplay like this.))

[don't mind me, just awkwardly jumping in]
The red haired girl was exhausted. It showed clearly in her face: her eyes half closed, her cheeks as bright as her hair. But most clearly it showed in how she struggled to hold a little silver Eevee in her arms. Her feet, covered in black leather boots, trudged along the path, nearly stepping on or kicking the two Fire-type pokemon that scurried ahead of her. She'd been on her own for a year now, but Alexa had never quite gotten the hang of rest or sleep.
She wanted nothing more than to turn into the nearest Pokemon Center, hand over her Growlithe, Vulpix, and Eevee (though she knew that last one would be difficult, since she almost never put Lily down, and the little shiny thing cried and cried when she did) to the Nurse Joy, and take a nice nap while they were healed. But then the words of an excited male drifted to her ears.
'A battle! To get us ready for our Gym fight!'
Life sprang back into the fourteen year old girl, as she rushed to the source of the sound. An actual battle, happening right in front of her! She'd never gotten to see a real one before, only those on television. Her brown eyes grew wide and only a yip from Lily let her know that she'd started to hold the baby Pokemon too tight.
Aidan, her Growlithe, gave a bark, wanting to go introduce himself to the boys and their pokemon, but Alexa, sat down on the ground and held him back by his scruff. 'Not now, you naughty boy. Wait. I wanna see the battle first, and then you can go play and make friends, alright?' She let the Puppy pokemon go as he gave a little nod, and quickly managed to grab her Vulpix Enya with a spare hand and pull the smaller Fire-type into her lap. 'That goes for you too, little girl,' Lexa chastised, tapping the russet female's nose, 'we're going to be quiet now, all of us, and watch, okay?'

((I know the rules, don't worry But on the off chance I break one, it'll be because I'm absentminded, so just kindly remind me and I'll fix it immediately)) Poochyena tried to move out of the way, but the powder landed straight on its face. It yawned once, and fell asleep, falling on its side and snoring. Eba frowned. I was right about the status effect, and when Poochyena wakes up he will be faster, but right now he's vulnerable... I might not be able to pull this off... Wingull or Blaze next, I wonder... he thought. "Poochyena, wake up and use bite!" he shouted, although Poochyena didn't wake up. ((In my bio, I said Eba has a habit of not trusting his pokemon. This is exemplified by the fact that as soon as Poochyena falls asleep, he immediately dismisses the possibility of his pokemon winning, and starts thinking about what to do next... It'll be one of his biggest flaws))

Alright, nice and tight and asleep! Time for the offensive!
"Shroomish, get a Bullet Seed going! Full force on the attack!" John commanded, his fluency as a Trainer becoming clearly visible with the practiced ease that he commanded his Pokemon with. Confidence, determination, and adrenaline were all natural processes that kept him fit and running as a Trainer. They were things that you had to learn to accept-and even though Eba was four or so years younger than John, John knew he had potential talent as a Trainer. He just had to wake up and realize it over time, much as John had done on his journey through each of the regions gathering the members of his team.
His Shroomish sprung to life at the first notion of John's voice, and taunted the sleeping Poochyena cheerfully, only teasing slightly, before trailing backwards a bit and unloading many seed shaped bombs to be sent flying toward the unaware Poochyena in hopes for a direct strike.
Meanwhile, John realized their little fight was causing quite a stir in the City. People were gathering to watch the two Trainers battle it out, and John felt more adrenaline rush through him. He knew he couldn't possibly risk losing now.
But one member of the crowd caught his attention more than the others; she was a young girl, with three Pokemon next to her or in her arms. A Shiny Eevee, a Growlithe, and a Vulpix.
But John was suddenly jarred back into reality as he watched his partner's Bullet Seed trail straight through the air in a perfect downward arc, aiming to land a direct hit on Eba's Poochyena...

The bullet seed hit Poochyena, making him wake up and howl in pain ((NOT howl the move, the action)). I'm already behind... I've got to get John's Shroomish defeated before Poochyena faints, or my next pokemon'll fall asleep as well.... "Poochyena," he called, "bite!" If this attack hits and makes his Shroomish faint, I may have a chance... However, if it doesn't flinch, I'll be in trouble. Poochyena, with increased speed because of Quick Feet, charged in a z-formation at Shroomish, hoping to bite it.
((Don't feel obligated to flinch because I mentioned it. There's a 25% or so chance in the games to flinch, so likelihood is that your pokemon won't flinch. I just needed to fill up my post with Eba's thought process so that it wasn't even tinier than it already is.))

So the impact from the Bullet Seed woke his Poochyena up then huh? No worries.
But Eba's Pokemon moved with extreme speed and agility, far too fast for Shroomish to react fast enough.
"Agh! Shroomish, dodge it and use Tackle!"
But his Shroomish couldn't react fast enough, and the Pokemon gave a squealing cry of pain as the Poochyena's bite collided with her.
Not used to such a powerful offense from such an agile opponent, John's Shroomish was more than toast if Eba's Poochyena got in another hit before he could get her back on her feet to react.
Seeing his Shroomish nearly defeated on the ground made him spring to life suddenly.
"Shroomish, hang in there! Use Absorb to get some fighting energy back!"
John's commands reached the ears of his new partner, and she stood, nodded once, and then leapt into the air once more, and began to use Absorb. At such close range there would be no chance for Eba's Poochyena to dodge, no matter how fast his ability had made him.

John's prediction was true, and Poochyena had its energy drained. Endurance was not Poochyena's strong spot, and he fainted upon receiving the attack. "Good try, Poochyena," he said, recalling his fallen pokemon. "Okay, Wingull, you've got this!" As he summoned Wingull, he crossed his fingers, hoping for at least victory against one of John's pokemon. "Let's start this off with a wing attack!" Upon hearing this, Wingull flew up into the sky, and then dove down towards the shroomish at a high velocity, its left wing outstretched, ready to land the super effective move on the shroomish.

((No worries, we'll both get better at it in time.))
Uh-oh. Shroomish doesn't stand a chance against Wingull. Shoot.
Well, it had certainly been fun while it had lasted, and-wait, what was he saying? Shroomish still had a chance. If she could put Wingull to sleep...
"Shroomish, use Sleep Powder on that Wingull!"
But she didn't have enough time to dodge the attack, and the super effective Wing Atatck landed full force on John's Shroomish, fainting her instantly.
A frown spread across his face, but he had been anticipating this much at least.
"Come back Shroomish; you were awesome!"
And then he removed the other Poke Ball from his belt, and tossed it into the air above himself.
"Blue, you're up! Lets finish this quick, shall we?"
John's Shiny Aron materialized on the ground in front of him, giving a slight huff, and readying himself for battle. And so it had begun once more; though Eba had a chance of winning here if he played it carefully. The only difference was that John's Aron was more experienced and seasoned with battles; Blue was more used to fighting overall than Eba's Wingull.
Will that make a difference at all though? I guess we'll find out.

Uh-oh, tactical error... Eba thought. If I had used Blaze, who is super effective on Shroomish AND Blue, I might have won, but now... Now it's a toss-up, but instead of with a coin it's with a 20-sided die, with 15 of the sides belonging to John... Wait, water is strong against steel as well! There may be a chance...
"Wingull! Water gun! Now!" Eba said. Ah, but isn't that pokemon one of the ones John had when he met me... And he seems to have been a trainer for a while... And it looks like a seasoned pokemon. I'm in big trouble.

John laughed slightly to himself and smiled at Eba now.
"Looks like you've backed yourself into a corner now. Lets finish this quick, Blue! Iron Defense to deflect that Water Gun and then Metal Claw! Go all out!"
The Aron nodded grimly, and his body began to glow with a metallic sheen, hardening his Defensive powers greatly. The Water Gun collided with him, but he shook it off with ease, suffering minute damage despite the Type advantage, and then his claws began to glow with the metallic sheen this time, and the Shiny Aron charged forward with extreme ease and practice, as he had done many times before, and leaped at the Wingull that was his opponent for this battle.
Alright! Blue is a good fighter, he's got this one down, even if Eba's Wingull has a super-effective move. This will be easy.

Wingull took the attack. It was a weak attack because of the type disadvantage, but it hit in just the right spot. Wingull went down in one hit. "Good try, Wingull," he said, putting it in its pokeball. So... I lost. That just goes to show that I still have a long way to go as a trainer. I'll win next time, Eba thought, shaking off the loss. He smiled at John, automatically snapping out of trainer mode and into hyper kid mode. "Wow, you're awesome!" he said. "I've learned a lot about battling, thanks to this! Thank you!"
((If you don't want the battle to be done now, I can edit this post))

Over so quickly?
John returned his Aron and gave Eba a simple thumbs up.
"Hey, you did great! You're definitely ready for the Gym challenge. Actually, I think we both are, for sure!"
Maybe it was false confidence that made him suggest it. Or maybe it was just the fact that after testing Eba's Pokemon first hand for himself, he had seen how ready they were for the fight against Roxanne.
"So, shall we head to the Gym right away after a quick stop at the Pokemon Center? Or do you want to wait for a bit and then go challenge the Gym?" John asked simply, waiting for a response from his companion.
With the battle finished, the crowd around them had begun to dissipate slowly. It didn't matter; it wasn't for show anyway. His whole point in the battle had been to show Eba that he did have some natural talent as a Trainer.

"Can we go challenge it now? I want to go ahead and get it over with before I get to anxious and decide not to fight," Eba asked. From behind Eba, Seedot thought about what had just happened, and decided it wanted to be useful. All of Eba's pokemon except it and Blaze had been sent out, and she knew that Blaze was the team's strongest, making her the least useful by default. Her chance to shine would come at the gym, she was sure of it.
((That Seedot bit may seem out of place, but it's my way of foreshadowing what I hope will happen at the gym battle...))
